John Jordan - Sheriff of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri (R) Elected in November 1994 to fill the unexpired term of retired Sheriff Norman Copeland. Sheriff Jordan was re-elected in November 1996 to a four year term expiring December 31, 2000. Sheriff Jordan ran un-opposed in the 2000 general election and was re-elected. Sheriff John Jordan is an experienced lawman having started his career in law enforcement while attending Wesley College in Florence, Mississippi. Jordan then worked in Bollinger County, Missouri and became the Chief Deputy. Cape Girardeau County Sheriff Norman Copeland hired him in 1986 where he served as Chief of Detectives (Lieutenant) until being elected as Sheriff of Cape Girardeau County in 1994. Sheriff Jordan is a former narcotics agent and commander of the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad. Sheriff Jordan is also a graduate of the prestigious National Sheriff’s Institute in Longmont, Colorado. Sheriff Jordan has instituted many Community oriented programs since being elected Sheriff. Some of those include the D.A.R.E. program, the Community Police Officer program by obtaining a COPS Grant. He is an active participant in the SALT/TRIAD Program (Seniors & Lawmen Together). In May of 1996 Sheriff Jordan started a Bloodhound Search & Rescue Unit to aid in a search for Missing Children, Criminals on the Run or a lost elderly person. Sheriff Jordan wrote and received a 1.5 Million-Dollar Grant from the United States Marshals Office to aid in the construction of the new Cape Girardeau County Justice Center which opened for business on March 13, 2001. Sheriff Jordan serves on the following advisory boards: SEMO Drug Task Force, Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad, the Safe House for Women, Missouri Midwest HIDTA, and the Missouri Sheriff’s Association. In April of 2000, Sheriff Jordan was appointed by U.S. Senator Christopher Bond to write and oversee an anti-methamphetamine program for the state of Missouri. Jordan was made fiduciary agent of over $6,000,000.00 to be distributed statewide to fight methamphetamine throughout rural Missouri. |
