Cape Girardeau County Sheriff Announces Video Visitation for the Jail Inmates

Sheriff John Jordan announces that family and friends will soon be able to visit their loved ones at the Cape Girardeau County Justice Center by video visitation. Equipment installation and staff training has been in progress to bring the Securus Technologies, Inc. Video Visitation system on-line at the jail.

Family and friends will be able to schedule visits and have visits from the comfort of their own home, office or anywhere equipped with a computer, camera and high speed internet access. The same system can be accessed through an app on Android smart phones and the Iphone app is expected to be released soon.  For those who don’t have access to a computer or smart phone, visitation for the entire jail system will still occur at the Jail utilizing the video visitation terminals located in the facility.

Visitation will no longer be confined to a one-day Saturday only policy. Safety and security for the inmates and staff will be reduced by not having to move inmates to the visitation area.  Inmates will instead visit from their housing units using the video visitation terminals.

Scheduling and conducting visits without having to drive to the Cape Girardeau County Jail facility will save time, money and will be more flexible to adjust to family and friends schedules.

Inmates will be limited to a 15 minute visit that will have to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance but the system will allow for more than one visit a week if done off-site. On-site video visits are at no cost to the public, however, there is a fee for off-site visits.  On-site visits will be on Tuesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will have to be scheduled 24 hours in advance and are also limited to 15 minutes.  Attorney, Probation and Parole, Division of Family Services, clergy representatives will still be able to have face to face visits.

Installation of the video visitation is in progress with testing scheduled to take place the week of December 14th. Saturday visitation will be suspended as of Saturday, December 19, 2105 for the final stage of installation and introduction of the video visitation system.

The public will be kept up to date on the progress of the installation and other pertinent information concerning video visitation. If you have any questions concerning video visitation contact the Cape Girardeau County Jail at 573-243-3551 option 2, email through our “Contact Us” at www.capecountysheriff.org. or visit Securus Video Visitation Website for details.
