Cape Girardeau County Jail Information & Policies

COVID-19 Update

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office has implemented the following restrictions:

  • No personal property of any type will be allowed into the jail.
  • All lobby video visitations are canceled until further notice.
  • Off-site video visits are still permitted.
  • Attorney and probation/parole visits will be conducted via phone in the old visitation area.
  • Clergy visits and worship services are suspended until further notice.
  • We kindly ask the public not to visit our facility at this time.

Detainee Communication

Detainees at the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office have access to phones, video visitation, e-messages, and regular mail.
All electronic communication is handled through SECURUS.

Phone Calls

Important Phone Call Information:

  • Detainees can only make collect calls during designated hours.
  • Officers will not pass telephone messages from outside citizens to detainees.
  • If you experience issues receiving collect calls from a detainee, contact Securus.
  • To block a detainee from calling you, contact the Sheriff's Office or Securus directly.

Home User Account Requirements

  1. Provide a clear photo of your Driver's License/State ID/Passport.
  2. Upload a clear photo of yourself (No filters, sunglasses, hats, etc.).
  3. Failure to follow these rules will result in account denial.

Video Visitation Rules

🚫 Prohibited Activities:

  • No nudity, sexually explicit clothing, or sexual behavior.
  • No drugs, alcohol, or tobacco use during visits.
  • No social media or other video platforms during the visit.
  • The registered account holder must be present for the entire visit.
  • Minors may participate, but the registered adult must be present at all times.
  • Unauthorized visitors using another person's account may lead to a ban.

Mail Procedures

Mailing Address for Detainees

All non-privileged mail must be sent as a postcard to the following address:

📢 Important Mail Guidelines:

  • All non-legal mail must be postcards (no envelopes or packages).
  • No index cards, altered materials, or photographs allowed.
  • Postcards must be standard white, no larger than 5" x 7".
  • Clearly print or type all text and addresses.
  • Return address must include the sender's full first and last name.

🚫 Unacceptable Mail Includes:

  • Defaced or altered postcards.
  • Postcards with plastic/wrappings, labels, stickers, watermarks, or stains.
  • Postcards with biohazards (lipstick, perfume, or other foreign substances).
  • Any postcards depicting nudity, weapons, alcohol, or gang-related content.

⚠️ Any non-privileged mail sent directly to the Sheriff's Office will be returned to the sender after March 1, 2023.
